The first week of school...

Hi.. well I just typed up everything that dealt with the week before.. you know.. the independent variables and H.D. statements :)

The first week of school- Well on the 8th/9th was just saying hi. 'This was important because' (see... I incorporated that in :) ) ... we needed to introduce ourselves and just get a gist of what we'd be doing for the rest of the year. On the 10th, we talked about the oh so fun TV experiment hypothesis observation thing. Ok, well I don't want to blab too much about what we weren't supposed to really blog about too much.. but eh.. I bet we'll come back to this post in like 5 months :)
Back to the TV observation. It went sort of like... "we walk by Mr.Finley's house and through his window see 37 TVs! Ahh!!" That is what we call an observation. An observation is (I hope we know what that is..) just a fancy word for [what i think of] as our basis for an experiment. The seeing of the 37 tv's is the starting block to our experiment... or really our Hypothetical Deductive Statement. An H.D. statement is the If, And, Then paragraphs that we write for something. You could break down an H.D. statement like this:
If- The Hypothesis
And- Test/Experiment
Then- Observation
Remember that giant list we made of reasons why Mr.Finley had a lot a lot of tv's? Well those would be hypothesises..hypothesis'? (sorry.. i can't spell..). An example from the list would be.. he has 37 relatives on tv, or something like that. The 11th.. I remember that day playing
mastermind!! Its all fun and games until the teacher says there'll be a quiz on this stuff. :/ Well, mastermind is just a game where you have to crack a code of a color sequence (big words :) ) There were the 6 colors to create the sequence, and then two other smaller pegs, the black and white pegs. The black peg indicated you had one correct colored peg in the correct spot..(but it didn't tell you which.. you had to use strategy and smarts!) And the white peg indicated you had the right colored peg in the wrong spot. So question for you... What did you change.. what was the independent variable? What were the results the measurement of change.. the dependant variable? Well, the i.v. was the color, and where we put the colored peg; the d.v. was/were the the black and white pegs.. and the control variable.. I don't think we talked about on that day. But playing mastermind is important because it helped us learn about the different types of variables and learning not to change too many at once. This is an important skill because generally in our scientific lives.. when conducting experiments, we learn not to change too many things at once or else then we won't know what is correct and what isn't. Alright.. i think that's it for what we learned the week before.

That's really it. I was actually going to put this with the post about this week, but then that would be a really long week wouldn't it? :)

It's great that you've shared what you learned. You seamlessly include hoe you learned what you did. It would also be great if you provide an example that shows why we need you not change too many variables. I'm glad you understand this!
